Birth-related injuries

The first wave of euphoria about the baby may make you forget about painful lesions in the genital area. But birth-related injuries need care. Classics from the pharmacy can help.

Protect scars

The manufacturer recommends the Motherlove® Regeneration Spray even for the time immediately after birth. It contains natural ingredients from witch hazel leaves, yarrow and bearberry as well as essential oils and can be applied with cosmetic pads or sprayed onto the skin.

After three to four weeks, the injuries are largely healed. However, the fresh scar may still be uncomfortable. Then a gentle massage with a scar ointment (such as APM cream, WALA® scar gel, Traumeel® ointment) is a boon. Massages with nourishing oils made from almond, wheat germ, jojoba, lavender or St. John’s wort, for example in Weleda perineal massage oil, also keep the scars supple. At the same time, the applications trigger a pleasant relaxation in the woman and ensure that the tissue is better supplied with blood.

To keep skin-irritations away from the fresh scars, the PTA can recommend special skin protection ointments, such as Deumavan® protective ointment, Vagisan® protective ointment. They protect the sensitive skin in the intimate area from contact with urine, stool, mechanical stress and germs and relieve pain, burning and itching.
