Holidaymakers should check their accommodation thoroughly for bedbugs and also look under the mattress in the bedroom. The bugs are particularly attracted to the odour of dirty laundry. Worn clothes should therefore not be thrown on the floor, but preferably kept in a tightly sealed plastic bag. If you want to be on the safe side, pack your laundry in a plastic bag while you are still on holiday and pour it out in the shower when you get home. If any pests crawl out of the laundry, they can be rinsed away straight away. All clothes that have been taken home should be washed at a temperature of at least 60 degrees. Hot steam also kills the parasites and their eggs.
Nobody needs to be ashamed of an infestation, as bedbugs are not a sign of poor hygiene. They can be introduced into even the cleanest household via items such as clothing. Insect extermina-tors can search the home with trained sniffer dogs. They also have chemical pesticides at their disposal. The pharmacy team advises against trying to get the pest under control yourself. Be-dbugs are resistant to many over-the-counter products. There is also a risk that insecticides can be harmful to your own health if used incorrectly.
