Rosacea |
It should not be forgotten that rosacea also puts a strain on the psyche. Patients suffer from a reduction in quality of life and feelings of stigmatisation, some develop depression or social phobias. The pharmacy team can point out options such as participation in a self-help group, psychological counselling or psychotherapy.
Decorative cosmetics can contribute to the well-being of female patients in particular. Products with a greenish tint can conceal the erythema of the skin. Light powders or creams are more suitable than heavy, lipid-rich cosmetics. Therefore, camouflage cosmetics, even if they are better at covering existing erythema, are usually not a good choice.
All skin cleansing, care and sun protection products should be adapted to the needs of the skin during active phases of the disease and also in the relapse-free interval. During the consultation, PTA can point out light hydrophilic skin care preparations from the field of medical cosmetics. Patients should cleanse their skin gently with lukewarm water and pH-neutral syndets. Since rubbing stimulates blood circulation, they pat the skin dry. The pharmacy team advises against peelings and substances that stimulate circulation, irritate or astringent the skin. For skin irritation and heat sensations, thermal-water spray can be a good tip. Patients spray it on the irritated skin several times a day if necessary. The liquid evaporates quickly and provides a feeling of freshness and cooling. Wet shaving can cause microtrauma to the skin surface and affect the skin barrier. Men are therefore better off shaving dry and avoiding alcoholic, irritating aftershaves.
